Hopefully they can just dump him at the deadline for something useful. I'd be happy enough with that considering he didn't really cost anything and all he has done is be a huge media hype distraction since he showed up.

Also, if he proves to be too greedy for money beyond his value I don't think very many teams are going to want to touch him. He already lied about his intentions with Anaheim and didn't even have the courtesy to thank the people who gave him a great opportunity. I think Mr. Schultz might need to either step off his high horse or elevate his game and prove himself.

He's young, he's offensively gifted, he's right shooting & he can skate; this kid is good!! The defensive side of things will come with time and experience.

Like Poti 13 years ago, one has to wonder if the Oilers will give up on Schultz.

Maybe what we need to do is not give up on potential, but use the guy to his fullest. He really does bring some attributes that no one else does, so why not use him to his best ability instead of trying to make him something he isn't?

I have no idea why its 1 year at too much money.

You'd think 2 years with some extra money or 1 year at lower money but more chance at future pay.

But no. I just don't know why they do this because it really makes next summer a bit of a shenanigan and gives them no room this summer to fit in a trade for a center

It probably had as much to do with what Schultz wanted as what the Oilers wanted. I don't think playing hardball well into training camp or even the season would have benefited the Oilers next year very much. Still have 4 million to spend.

Most of that 4 million is going to rookie bonuses to LEON!, Martincin and Sploojapov.

I was under the assumption that we were getting a 2C to send down LD. I wasn't aware of any rookie bonuses on MM's contract.
Realistically, how much less did you expect him to get paid? 1 million?

2.9 on a one year. 3.4 on a 2 year.

What team trades a 2C before camp? What team trades centers after like July 15th?

I guess Mac T said in his presser that the Centres we have now are the ones we go into camp with. I wouldn't expect a trade until after the season starts. I'd imagine most teams want to evaluate where they are at first.

Unfortunately, this increases the likelihood of another terrible start.

I can't see a team finishing camp and going "Yeah, we've got enough good centers. We'll trade one to Edmonton for...." unless that "for" is "for Petry"
